BJ's on the Water

BJ's on the Water – Delicious, Delightful and Always Fun   Oh, golly, did Dew (my gent) and I have fun last Saturday night.  We had a fabulous meal at BJ's and danced the night away to Chest Pains, one of our favorite bands.  The prior week we had another wonderful meal with a large group of friends bonded by our mutual love for Tranzfusion; this classic rock band has been together for more than thirty years and each show is outstanding! Ok, I know this is supposed to be a restaurant review and it will be, my friends.  BJ's is located at 75th Street and the bay and has consistently offered great food since day one back in 1980.  Hours of operation are 11am to 2pm year round and their entire menu is available all day - dinner for lunch or lunch for dinner.  They have both indoor and outdoor bay front dining.  If you check out their web site (bjsonthewater.com) you can take a water tour of BJ's and listen to a bit of Lower Case Blues playing in the bac...

Longboard Cafe

Longboard Cafe     Longboard Café, the most recent eatery established by local restaurateur Rick Vach, offers coastal cuisine at its finest.     Conveniently located midtown in the 67th Street Town Center, Longboard Cafe’s full menu includes seasonal specials as well as a wide variety of specialty libations, craft beers and wines.  Their popular “241526” happy hour is just as it says...two drinks for the price of one and is available to thirsty patrons seven days a week from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.  My personal favorite summer specialty drink is the refreshing ‘Just Peachy’ margarita, as delightful to look at as it is to drink     A friend and I recently dined at Longboard Cafe. Although there were people waiting to be seated outside, we were easily accommodated inside despite arriving a half hour prior to our reservation.     I started off with a classic margarita. A delicious libation, it was not to...

Fat Fish

Fat Fish     Localize it. That’s the underlying theme in everything about Fat Fish in West Ocean City. When we pulled into the parking lot on Sunset Avenue this week, we recognized local customers with surf boards hanging out of their pickup truck beds. As we breezed past the outdoor tiki torches, palm trees, mellow lighting, and outdoor seating with umbrellas, we recognized longtime local Sean Robins bartending inside. And, as we perused the healthy menu, we knew that the fish are fresh off the boats at Sunset Marina, and the vegetables are straight from Eastern Shore farms. Even the beer is stocked with locally sourced kegs from the popular Burley Oak brewery in nearby Berlin, and Hoop Tea from boardwalk-headquartered Backshore Brewing Company.     Before we discuss the menu, we want to say a few more things about the radical ambiance at Fat Fish. The walls are covered in vibrant murals, created by local artist Sam Elman, and are reminiscent of old schoo...

KY West

KY West     When we entered KY West on 54th Street and Coastal Highway, a friendly host offered us our choice of tables in the outdoor patio, the indoor dining room, or the swanky bar room. He escorted us to a lovely table in the indoor dining room, past a cozy electric fireplace, nautical wall murals, and contemporary aquariums. We admired the view of the Ocean City lights at night, and commented on the restaurant's vantage point for car event weekends, including the upcoming Endless Summer Cruisin’ weekend, and Free State Corvette Club weekend. Customers can enjoy a birds-eye view of all of the action, while dining far enough removed from the noise to enjoy intimate conversation.     I noticed that the menu has been upgraded to a leather-faced book, which now includes an impressive wine and cheese menu with delectable options like Mobay, Menage, and Gran Canaria. For a taste of everything, order the Five Fresh Cheeses with Olives and Cured Meats plate. ...

Longboard Café

Longboard Café     My Mother and I recently had the most scrumptious dinner and delightful evening at Longboard Café. Have you given this fairly new venue a try? We highly recommend it and please read why! Longboard Café is located in the 67th Street Town Center on the bay side of Coastal Highway. Owner Rick Vach has chosen a surfer themed decor for his restaurant that has an upper level (perfect for private parties), a fully stocked bar with excellent bartenders, and both indoor and outdoor seating.     It was a beautiful evening and the sun was providing a one-of-a-kind decline for the evening. We were tempted to eat outside on the wooden deck, but chose to dine inside as Paul Cullen (former bassist for Bad Company) was providing a rare performance with Joe Mama that night. All summer long Joe Mama has had a guest musician perform with him Sunday evenings and by the time they started, there was standing room only for the rest of the evening. Many of our top ...

OC Wasabi

OC Wasabi One of the most jaw-dropping, fun-filled weekends of the year in Ocean City is happening this weekend—the OC Air Show. The event is headquartered on 16th Street, which makes this the perfect weekend to check out the completely new OC Wasabi Express in the Layton’s Plaza on 16th Street. The new restaurant specializes in Japanese lunch selections, such as the Lemon Roll and the Hawaiian Poke—marinated tuna over a bed of rice. “Regular customers keep coming back for the Shrimp Summer Roll,” says chef, owner, and entrepreneur, Kenny Diu. “This crowd pleaser is comprised of shrimp with mint, vegetable, rice noodles, and peanut sauce, wrapped in rice paper. “ In addition to appetizers and entrees from the Sushi Bar, OC Wasabi Express serves Vietnamese Sandwiches, which are quickly earning accolades from locals and tourists alike. Ham, Chicken, Vegetable, or Combination Banh Mi are each a must try.     You can also purchase Sushi...
