Apple Scruffs - The Beatles
40 Ounces to Freedom - Sublime
Almost Queen - Queen
Beatlemania Again - The Beatles
Last week, I told you about some amazing unique bands that will be performing at Seacrets this summer. While these are some truly great acts to see, I understand some may not want to go simply because they’ve never heard of the band. Well, I have good news for you. Popular bands U2, Pink Floyd, The Beatles and more are coming to Ocean City this year! Well…kind of. Each summer, both Fager’s Island and The Purple Moose host great bands that perform tributes of some of the most [popular] bands in the world. It’s not exactly the true experience, but these talented musicians will use both their musical talents and costumes to give you the next best thing.
Fager’s Island - 60th Street in the Bay
Steal Your Face - The Grateful Dead
Appearing: July 7
Although I highly recommend seeing Further, a Greatful Dead tribute formed by past Dead members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir, this is still a great tribute that can help bide your time before your chance to see two legendary musicians.
Eclipse - Pink Floyd
Appearing: July 10
This seven-piece Nashville band puts their heart and soul into each song to guarantee that each note being played sounds as if it’s made by the original members of Pink Floyd. Any song from their extensive catalog has a chance of being played, from the popular “Money” to the obscure “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.”
2U - U2
Appearing: July 17 & September 5
The wardrobe these guys wear are so good, you’d swear it was Bono himself serenading you with his voice. They play songs from U2’s entire catalog, including their latest release, “No Line on the Horizon.”
40 Ounces to Freedom - Sublime
Appearing: July 18
As with all great tribute bands, 40 Ounces to Freedom perform both Sublime’s greatest hits and their true fan’s most beloved songs. It’s interesting to note that they put their own flavor on songs and jam out throughout their set, making the show a very special tribute.
Rober Eric’s Tribute to the Piano Man - Billy Joel
Appearing: July 24
Robert Eric and his backing band are such great performers, they actually opened twice for Billy Joel himself! If this group has earned the respect of the performance they are giving a tribute to, this is definitely going to be an amazing show.
Parrotbeach - Jimmy Buffett
Appearing: August 4 & August 21
Arguably the most eccentric tribute act Fager’s will see this year, Parrotbeach brings all of Jimmy Buffett’s classics to a fun show that should be enjoyed with a margarita in your hand.
Beatlemania Again - The Beatles
Appearing: August 7
Describing themselves as, “The second invasion,” Beatlemania Again plays a wonderful set that chronologically travels through the history of The Beatles. To top off the experience, there are three separate costume changes throughout the night that reflect the era of songs being played.
Purple Moose - Between Talbot and Caroline St. on the Boardwalk
Toys in the Attic - Aerosmith
Appearing: July 7
Just like our U2 and Beatles tribute bands, these guys go all out to make it seem as if it’s actually Aerosmith shredding in front of your eyes.
Kick it Out - Heart
Appearing: July 14
These Philadelphia/South Jersey rockers aim to give a truly emotional experience for Heart fans. Authenticity is key to this band and this is sure to be one wild show.
Almost Queen - Queen
Appearing: July 21
Joseph Russo, who does his best Freddie Mercury impression, uses his beautiful Broadway voice to emulate that of the late Freddie Mercury. Add great costumes worn by a talented band and you’ll swear you’re with the original band belting out the words to “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Apple Scruffs - The Beatles
Appearing: July 28
Named after the most hardcore Beatles fans from back in the day, this Baltimore five-piece love playing classic Beatles tunes that were never performed live.
Odyssey Road - Journey
Appearing: August 4
Journey’s classics are staples of Ocean City cover bands, and now you can listen to Journey covers all night long! They are solely focused on emulating the sound, not the look, of Journey, making the band a very faithful musical tribute.
Crossroad, Just Like Jovi - Bon Jovi
Appearing: August 11
You’ve heard me describe each individual band all night long, but let’s get to the chase. They sound like Bon Jovi, play like Bon Jovi, and it’s going to be a great time.
