THANK YOU JIMMY CHARLES BAND
The Jimmy Charles Band from Nashville kept their audience dancing all night long at Bourbon St. on the Beach: local Chuck Kelly (keyboard), Spencer W (guitar), Jimmy, Corey England (bass) & Matt Hannas (drums).

THANK YOU JIMMY CHARLES BAND
The Lauren Glick Band - Kelly, Lauren & Steve - will perform Sunday at Coconuts Beach Bar & Grill.
Havin’ fun yet? I sure am. I may not go out quite as often as I use to, but when I do I enjoy it that much more. Last Saturday was a blast at Coconuts Beach Bar & Grill hearing one of my favorites, 33 RPM. Drummer, singer, sometime guitarist and all-around charismatic Mike Beavan knows how to get a crowd stoked up; as does bass man Rock who almost inspires us to head bang again. Well, I said almost. Rock projects his joy of playing onto the audience and pulls us in with him. And Larry on lead guitar? He is without doubt one of the most proficient guitarists in the business. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to hear too much because Mother Nature decided to intervene with a burst from a tropical storm that forced the band to pack up early.  More rockin’ music will be offered up this Saturday with the return of aptly named Rockaholics. And then on Sunday the Lauren Glick Band returns to get us fired up again. I hope you’ve been following my write-ups about Lauren and her campaign to have her original music get radio air time. Wishing her all the best in that endeavor. Call your local music stations and request her music. As always, let me remind you that Coconuts features two live musical acts each and every day. Check the Who’s Where When list for the complete lineup.

I was not deterred to get my musical fix so I headed up to Bourbon St. on the Beach (126th St.) to hear Shots Fired. Between the music and a couple yummy Orange Creamcicle cocktails, I was fired up too. Dom, Danny, Chris and frontman Brian always bring the house down with their high-energy mostly ‘80s rock show. I really enjoyed the sit-down acoustic duo songs, too. Danny’s 12-strong Ovation has such a full sound, and the harmonies these two singers lay down are so pleasing. Thank you, guys, for including that little something extra special. I went back to Bourbon St. last night (Thursday) to hear the Jimmy Charles Band that absolutely brought the house down. Fans and new fans were up dancing and cheering for more encores as the band was encouraged to play some more for us. We don’t often get to hear the entire band when Jimmy comes to town but this time the boys from Nashville made the trip to join him; and they were incredible. Spencer W wailed on guitar flashing a grin the whole time. Corey England ripped it up on bass displaying quite the crazy lovin’-the music-persona and sang a few songs as well. And Matt Hannas kept it all punching back there on the drums. Jimmy loves coming back home to the Eastern Shore where he can visit with his mom and give her some time with her grandson Charleston, whose mom Miranda is always so friendly and endlessly supportive of her musical man. What’s not to like in Jimmy Charles ... his originals are creative, upbeat, introspective and down-right good. Talk about upbeat: “Never Had A Bad Day” just makes you feel happy! And the songs he covers are rockin’ whether in the country genre or rock. He does it all and he’s super friendly, down-to-earth and good-looking too. I hope he never gets too busy to make it back home here where we can all enjoy his talents. Thank you, Jimmy! He’s playing up north at Harpoon Hanna’s tonight if you want to go hear what I’m raving about. Gotta give a shout-out to local DJ Chuck D who is also an awesome keyboard player. He joined the group last night and did a superb job. I was quite impressed.

Another of my very favorite bands has returned to Ocean City to play Friday and Saturday nights at the world famous Purple Moose Saloon - SURREAL!!  These guys have been playing at the Purple Moose for maybe 30 years and they haven’t lost their edge at all. New fans continue to join the legions of long-time loyal fans to make for a huge music fest every time they play. Lead vocalist Walt (also on guitar) joins guitarist Brian, bassist Will and drummer Chris to create a concert-worthy performance of so many classic hits from the ‘80s and early ‘90s. I guarantee you’ll be mightily impressed with everything about this band. Hoping this weather will clear up some so I can get out to hear them. Don’t like getting wet, you know. Don’t know whether it’s ‘cause I’m so sweet I’ll melt (LOL) or too bad like the Wicked Witch who melted when Dorothy hit her with that bucket of water. Referencing The Wizard of Oz makes me remember the last time the band was in town and we carried the party to the band house and got silly with Wizard of Oz songs - so much fun. Love you guys!

I’m gonna take off now and pray for the rain to go away. Have fun whatever you do and remember to always party safe!
